Concentrationby NinjaMomComment by RiderGal: I like that you used black and white here, gives it an old fashioned school girl type look. Nice job with a difficult lighting situation. I wish you would have gotten down at the side of the table and maybe shot more from the front, and below, so that you could see her face and that deep look of concentration. as of now there are too many distractions... I might have suggested a shallow DOF so that only the girl and her paper were in focus, and blurring the background. |

Angel Smileby NinjaMomComment by NinjaMom: Thanks Soup. :)
I am learning to really do all of the photography stuff. Although I personally like the soft focus, I have learned that it isn't a favorite with a lot of people. I do tend to rely on the camera too much, however I have finally enrolled in a photography course that I hope will improve my skill.
I took my skylight filters off. I have read that they tend to cause a soft focus and I haven't really sharpened anything in post processing. On the picture above how much sharpening would you recommend. I ask so that I can get an idea for what it is that I am missing.
I really appreciate your comments here. It is a lot easier for me to learn from comments like this, than simple on liners that just point out what is a problem to someone else. Does that make sense? |

Angel Smileby NinjaMomComment by soup: soft focus - possible cause - the canon 10d - depending on the the parameter settings takes a soft photo - the images need to be sharpened in post processing. basically any image from a high'ish end digital SLR camera will need to be sharpened on the computer.
second possibilty - you are relying too heavily on the camera to make things work for the image. ie. wrong AF focus point is locking focus.
the closest one to the subject if they are all active will grab the focus lock.
third possibility - the lense is a soft lense. you are using it at fstops outside the capabilities of the lens. ie. a cheap lense will perform poorly wide open ( say @ f:3.5 - or stopped down f:22 or higher )

Old Yellerby NinjaMomComment by Crisik: it is probably supposed to be disgusting :) otherwise, i would prefer st particular to be in focus (other than just a central part of the pile of banana bodies) and more contrast |

Old Yellerby NinjaMomComment by BAMartin: The focus on this photograph is very soft. Not sure if that was intentional, but its very distracting |

Old Yellerby NinjaMomComment by puzzled: eeewwww. The stuff in the lower left between the peel and the meat (right next to a strong white spot) is distracting. An appropriate title. |
