As you know, this sort of portraiture really appeals to me. I just got done reading the thread about this photo in the forums, and I have to say that some people do not find any thing stirring about moody photography, which is probably why I have so much trouble finding work that pays. This portrait will not appeal to many types of people because it comes off as 'just a woman with a big nose'. To those sensitive to good portraiture, you see much more than that. To find a woman like this on the street or in a restaurant and capture her with this much character is nothing short of brilliant in my opinion. The fact that she is living with this nose, without having had it surgically altered by her age is a testimony to self acceptance, and she doesn't appear ashamed of it either. I think she is beautiful and I too, think it deserved a much higher score. Way to go Sandy.

Perfect capture of the model. As you say, she fits to the tee. The cloth pattern, cigarette, and general demeanor. Not often one gets to work with such overt character - like a time warp. The human form can be strangely expressive, sometimes.
