I like how the "battle" of the two workers on the right is reflected by a "battle" between the worker on the left and the viewer. And in spite of all this war everyone has a happy expression. A refreshingly playful scene.

What jumps out first are the smiles, the sense of playfulness and ease. I don't make out, though it's possible, undertones of hostility. As we in America come to an increased focus on the terrible consequences of a history of violence, oppression, fear and unkindness, I hope I correctly see this sparring as one more incident of normal, human interaction. The gentleman on the left seems to beckon us in. I'm not a pollyanna, though, and see this movement as a positive step on a long trek. Amidst all the visual clamor the bright white reflective stripes on the workmen's vests serve to establish a motif that introduces some order and a place for the eyes to rest. Black and white treatment also allows the background to resolve into a complex melange of shapes. Nicely seen.
