I can assure you this is a Blue Heron, one of my favorites. Unfortunately my shutter speed was a bit too slow to stop the slower forward movement and put him in better focus but I kinda like the blurred effect. Thanks for all the comments on my first submission! |

Brother Heronby carlosmComment by CLarson557: This is a good attempt at a still action shot. However, the entire bird is blurry. A faster shutter speed would take the blurr out. Do you have manual controls on your camera. If you have sufficient light on your subject (here, the bird appears to be in the shadow of the trees, so there might not be), you can increase your shutter speed to stop the action, but you let in less light. I\'m assuming that by being a beginner to photography that you might have been in automatic mode. If so, the camera adjusted itself to the lack of light by lowering the shutter speed, thereby causing the bird to be blurred in the course of his flight. Even if the bird\'s wings are blurred, the photo would be more effective if it\'s head, tail and legs were more in focus. By the way, I like the reflection of the bird in the water at the bottom of the picture. I hope this helps...I\'m kind of a beginner myself, so someone with more experience could probably explain it better. |

Brother Heronby carlosmComment by frisca: yipes! superb bird to take a shot of, but he's both flying away from you and way out of focus. :( |

Brother Heronby carlosmComment by thatguy: the blurry effect doesn't work well for this image, a sharper image may have created a better effect |

Brother Heronby carlosmComment by irae: This realy needed a faster shutter speed. A little motion in the wings is fine by me, but the whole bird is just a blur here. You might have gotten away with panning if the bird's motion had been perpendicualr to the lens, but for a static shot this just won't work. |

Brother Heronby carlosmComment by pesinn: From-behind photography again, it's those darn wild animals! Nice motion though, would have liked to see the head properly! - 6 |
