Initial Impact: WOW thats alot of color!
Artistic Value: I feel this has alot of good aspects artisticly. The Child has a very happy expression on his face. There are alot of stong lines oin the backgroung that dont distract from the boy. There are a few aspects I don't like in this photo as well. But hey in art there is never a photo everyone will think is perfect. Artisticly I just don't like the arms holding the boy.I'm not sure what could have solved this.
Camera work: Well done photo. Good focus, nice DOF. I think I would however liked to have seen "soft water" comming down on the boys head. The current technique works but I feel that soft water would have been more impressive. If you havn't hear of soft water. It's growing to be a popular method for shootong water. I'm sure if you posted the question you should get a reply pretty easy.
Post processing: I must agree with soup on this one. It is a little over saturated. The green border on the life vest seems to be its own light source. On the left shoulder the green has completely burned out. The wall of the pool seem to be an abnormal blue as well. While I like the initial impact of the colors. I feel you wen't a little to the extream.
Excitement: The subject is not very exciting perhaps if I knew the kid this might become a more exciting shot but alas I don't. The shot itself however is exciting the strong lines and colors draw you stright in to the boys face.
Fits the challenge: Sure the look on the photo is a little comical. I did not find it to be overtley funny . While I must admit it did fit the challenge it would not have been a very strong contender in the humor dept.
Overall: One of the best snapshots I have seen in along time. Everything was pretty well done in the shot. But it still feels like a very cute and nice snapshot.
