Perhaps a bit less negative space at the top of the frame would have made it a bit better, but the bright color makes it a dynamic shot nonetheless.

I'm sure I won't be the only one to dislike the red background. For me it is totally unnecessary and ruins an otherwise decent shot.

The shadows under the cameras are distracting adn it is very similar to many other entries.

what i would give to see a cardinal around here when i have my camera! it always seems to be either one or the other for me. i hope you are not getting overlooked, and that you are getting good comments and suggestions. if this doesn't score where you want it to, please don't take it personally; just look at it as a good starting point for the rest of the year. compositionally, i think you'd have a better image if it wasn't so centered, and technically, it would probably be better if the focus were a bit sharper. good luck!
