Good choice for the background to contrast the glass but if you try moving a bit to the right to avoid the tree behid the glass, it would be nice

The only thing I don't like about this photo is the cropping of the butterfly's wing.

An even more narrow depth of field would have helped out here, the background is still too clear and somewhat distracting from the subject of the photo. other than that the lighting, and colors look good.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi Dphillips...

I believe that 'rain' is the weather theme of this photo, so the challenge is met in that aspect with no problems :)

The composition on this shot is good, and the exposure is fine as well. Technically, there is nothing wrong witht he image. I think the image is simply lacking strength. There doesn't seem to be anything here that has any 'wow' factor or visual impact for the viewer.

Exposure is wrong to sho the "storm" coming out of the drain. nice twist on stom or weather, but the water coming out is barley visable.

Purple Peepers

Comment by JPR:
Greetings for the Critique Club:

First, let me say that this meets the challenge very well. The purple peeps and the green eggs make a nice contrast. (they should make purple peeps, they look tastier than the yellow ones). Your idea is also excellent and the touch of the egg is really cute while at the same time being bizarre because it makes us realize how completely unnatural and alien the peeps look.

Some possible suggestions I would make for improving the shot:
First, I would set it up a little bit more balanced. I like the placement of the peeps, but the camera seems to be tilted at a slight angle. Also, I don't like that they are cut off. If you're going to do a very zoomed in macro and want to cut them off I would at least recommend cutting them off in equal amounts on each side.

Second, the lighting is a bit harsh and it makes the peep on the left overexposed and makes the grains pop out giving the image an overall impression of being out of focus.

Also, I would have liked the see the image composed differently so that the egg isn't so close to the bottom corner. It seems like the egg is what is supposed to draw my eye to it at first glance, but since it's almost on the border I find myself leaving the picture and going back to it. I would move it a little up and right, which would also bring more of the left peep into the frame. Don't put it dead center either, unless you've arranged the peeps perfectly symettrically around it.

I agree with the comment about the surface being distracting. It would have been better on a plain white or black table or something. I have the feeling htat it was on a grey marble table and that it turned into purple when you did adjustments in the channel mixer, but I could be wrong.

All in all, a nice Easter photo and I'm sure you still have some peeps around to experment with. Have fun, don't eat too many and get sick!

Tighter on the water dripping from the spout would have fit with the title a little better. And either a faster (freezing the drops) or slower (giving them a stronger sense of motion) sutter speed might have given a better effect to the drops.
