tough to get clarity per depth of field costraints when shooting this close (or is this cropped?) ... in any case i think filling a bit less of the frame with the cute pup would have improved this

Your focus is a little off here. I don't know if you were going for a "soft focus" effect, or if the camera just missed the focus (the material the dog is laying on seems more in focus), but it's not working.
