Can't find the words ?? Say it with FLOWERSby megryanComment by Skip: ok, i am voting this challenge in 2 passes. in this pass, you will get a partial comment and a score. then i will come back to comment again. if you have any problem whatsoever with this comment, pm me and let me know. otherwise, take it with a grain of salt...i'm not trying to be a know-it-all, i'm just explaining where i'm coming from in voting this challenge. and, if this comment is NOT helpful (of if you think i'm full of $#!+), don't mark it helpful.
billboards are a science unto themselves. a lot of research has gone into determining just how much information a person can digest and retain in specific time spans. they use this information to develop formulas for determining the number of words and letters to use on billboards, as well as their sizes. they also determine the size and number of visual elements to include.
the graphics/photograph on a billboard are designed to get the point across in a moment. on the road, a driver will have less time with a billboard than a voter will give your image. this is a key element in the challenge: composing a shot that will get its point across quickly and succintly. along those lines, a strong composition will probably have few details and make strong use of negative space. |

Freedomby megryanComment by Brad: Hi Lisa,
I'm not going to hide from anyone by a PM and wanted to apologize for the comment I made during the challenge: "Where's the bridge?"
I have no idea why I said that, as I clearly understood the shot. I was in a pissy mood around that time and also noticed I did not vote on it either. I quit voting on the challenge when I saw my score climbing and didn't want to have a biased opinion in the voting process.
For what it's worth, I would have given this a 7, and probably wouldn't have gone any higher due to the highlights being blown out.
Oh and may go back and unselect the "helpul" check box - it wasn't! LOL

Freedomby megryanComment by megryan: Thankyou all for these 16 comments and those who gave 9's and 10's ! Yes I didn't like the blown out part and didn't want it there but there was nothing I could do to this particular shot. I had ones where there was no blown out area(finger) but the mantis was not in focus or in the wrong position. Very difficult to get it spot on. I had to settle with it. I also think voters couldn't see the bridge concept either in this hence the low scores.... |
