There is a distinct difference between physical pain undertaken willingly (piercings, tattoos, etc) and that which is incurred without asking for it (a broken bone etc.)

This is a good shot. I like the way the light shines through the back. I also like the fact that the growth is on the tombstone itself, it makes the shot look more beautiful and natural. I like nature so this shot appealed to me. I also like the fact that you didn't focus on just one straight gravestone, you quite a few other gravestones in the shot and the stone in the center toward the back it sort of slanted.. I really like that it helps show that this really is an old world like your title stated. You can tell time and effort went into this shot. I really liked this image and I think you did a nice job!
