Grade School Memoriesby SDWComment by JRalston: It's definitely not a bad picture. When I look at it, it doesn't scream Broken, however. My attention is all on the boy and the wall is easily overlooked. I think this would make a nice b & w print :) |

Grade School Memoriesby SDWComment by Faye Pekas: It certainly didn't deserve the lower scores. I didn't vote but I would have given it a 5. I don't like the crop on the boy plus I'm not crazy about the wide border. I love the broken wall though. |

Grade School Memoriesby SDWComment by jbsmithana: Scott - I've been in this position also, middle score with no commnets. It is easy to ignore the middle ranks and only commnet on the best and worst.
With that siad this was certainly not the worst. It suffered from many of the thungs already mentioned; overshapening, bright background, too much going on in the photo. It may have done better with a closer crop. I for one like the boy and got the relationship with the broken wall.
Hope this helps as I'm certainly not a medal winner! |

Grade School Memoriesby SDWComment by fotomann_forever: Got a 7 from me... I thought it was "border-line" for the challenge, but did fit the challenge. No points deducted here.
My biggest gripe is the headphones, they're somewhat distracting and take away from the otherwise classic feel this image has.
I also like to see just a bit more shallow DoF. |

Grade School Memoriesby SDWComment by IndigoButterfly: Okay, I'll step up. Please keep in mind these are my two cents ( don't have no ribbon or nuthin'). :)
The image was technically good, but it didn't grab me emotionaly. I wanted just a bit more and in fact I think a close-up of the naked bricks would've drawn me more. I think the youth detracts from the broken bricks (although you could've been relaying broken youth as well), but I'd prefer to have one focus (the bricks) and at a sharper angle.
Good pic tho.

Grade School Memoriesby SDWComment by RayEthier: You are absolutely right... the photo does not warrant the lower scores, of one, two and three. I found that the presence of the young man in the photo didn't add to the image, and found the white behind him truly distracting.
I would have preferred a different perspective on this image where only the broken portion, and the background wall were in view.
Notwitstanding this, I did like it enough to score it a 7.
