For me, this is too much of an un-natural look. I think it was the wrong type of photo to do selective desaturation.

Personally, I like the expression. To me it is the mock expression you make at someone who's staring at you mouth agape. To me it seems to say (coupled with the belly) "What are YOU staring at?" I agree that the lighting is to harsh. I think the background would work if he'd cropped right at the frame rather than letting you see some behind him. Not the best photograph in the world, but not deserving of a 1, IMO.

Interesting and certainly well defining, However, being that you are showing an exception, it would have been much better to have a close up between ears and eyes to give the viewer a better sense of balance. The image could have run from half the ear to the end of the brow. Do not be discouraged, you did accomplish the aim of the challenge and you have turned in a nice image. 6
