She's beautiful, but the background is cluttered and her position and expression make me wonder what's going on below the frame that I can't see. Frankly, she looks like she's on top of someone (which is fine).

The Grand Canyon is awesome! We hiked down to Phantom Ranch in Feb of '06 and spent two nights. Did some hiking around when we were down there and took lots of pictures. I tried to take pictures that portrayed the DEPTH and COLORS of the canyon (as you did here) but just couldn't quite get it to my satisfaction. Excellent photography.

None of the lighting issues bother me here with this photo. I am accepting it for what it is. The lady in the shadow seems perfectly lit and with her face being dark it gives it a sense of mystery. One questions her obscurity which makes the photo a little more interesting in my opinion. While technically flawed, the portrait has an element of interest to it. So yes, you succeeded.

i would encourage you to follow your instincts....the critiques offered on this sight defiantly have value but in my estimation there are no hard and fast rules in photography, you should ALWAYS shoot what you enjoy...
