very artistic with the floating leaves but for me natural history shots should be as they are, I dont think desaturation is a valid tool in this area .3

The selective use of color is interesting, but for a bird challenge, it really switches focus to the plant. Did you try color for the plant & the bird? That might work better.

Sorry but I am not a big fan of selective desaturation, I can tell you right away I would have scored this even higher if it had been in colour or all in b/w. Anyway, I still like this shot a lot, it lives up to it´s title and it makes me curious what is in store for this little duckling and the vegetation adds to the shot. Good job.
