I was exactly the same as you (still am in certain cases) the best thing to do is to simply ask "Hey, hello there, would you mind if I take your photograph please"? they can only say yes or no.

Sometimes they ask what it is for and usually I say "I'm retired and this is what keeps me sane".

Seeing how the topic is about water, I would have preferred a slightly different angle to show more reflection, less "original". But it is a lovely scene, nevertheless.
