Ya'll Come Back Now Ya Hear?by MAKComment by Paul: This image has caused me to stop and pay attention. That means it is in my 7-10 voting band. (Voted earlier)
Additionally, it is highly interesting/eclectic meaning it keeps me here long enough to offer a longer comment and a vote of 8 or more.
This is one of my 10s - I like it very much. Furthermore I think it enriches the DPC collective portfolio. Put simply, I wish we saw more stuff like this. Let me tell you why it pushes all the right buttons for me:
1. The whole quirkiness of the portrait.
2. The unblock blacks.
3. The centred composition.
4. The intensity of gaze.
Very well made. |

Trianglesby MAKComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I like the low lighting and leading lines of comp here, though I think it's also a little on the safe side - the horizon looks a little too centered. Though I see the triangles and geometry, like the obvious ones in the mountains, but also the road/field junction, this image simply isn't as literal as voters like.
The contrails, especially the topmost one in the sky, detract from the triangular shape of the mountains, and of course white will always draw the eye like a magnet.
Hope this critique has been of help, feel free to PM me.

Ya'll Come Back Now Ya Hear?by MAKComment by MadMan2k: The impression I get is that he's posed against the brick wall, seemingly staring down the camera like it's the pistol loaded with a bullet about to administer his sentence for some crime punishable by execution.
It's also a nice juxtaposition of a character straight from a farm onto a location that must have been new and shiny in the industrial age, but could now be in any weathered downtown area, around the corner from a bar serving PBR and Fireball and a sushi restaurant.
If the intent was to leave the story up the viewer, you have succeeded greatly because I've been looking at this for a long time and it's still fascinating. |
