Great ape, great pic. Good focus, composition etc.
Complementary - technically further away from true complements than many; artistically closer than many appear to have given you credit for.
Unfortunately in my opinion a relatively large number of voters took an absolute idea of complements and had no flexibility with regard to shade of colour which affects the complement equally.
Your shot definitely deserved to be higher placed.
