Bridge to the Cityby markwileyComment by nam: I love this - and what a sky! I might look at what lightening the shadows a bit would do. Since the right 2/3 are "overcooked" a bit (not that I mind at all here LOL), what happens if you crop the left section where the sky is so tame off - take it to an 8x10 horizontal. But still lighten the shadows - I ache to see more detail in the skyline, the reflection, the girders . . . |

Dameby markwileyComment by nam: Nothing beats the shimmer of wet pavement or sidewalks when it's dark. Congratulations on the top ten. |

Dameby markwileyComment by Neat: Nice to finish near some good company....,what I liked the most about this shot were the rays of light to the right, great mood. |

Hope and Apprehensionby markwileyComment by CNovack: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
Love how the lines of light rays and shadows complement the lines of the street and vertical lines of the beams that hold up the overpass. The lone silhouette of the person adds visual interest for he could be symbolically walking towards the light (and a brand new day). |

Hope and Apprehensionby markwileyComment by Paul: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Oh, this is excellent - the long shadows, the red coloration and the lone figure - all such strong compositional elements. I like the texture on yonder wall too though I think it is a little over-sharp. I really like the blazing glare of the sun as it pours in - quite apocalyptic; in fact, your scene has a touch of 28 Weeks Later rather than 'Hope and Appreciation'.
Critical stuff: I think parts of the image do look over sharpened and I think the image would look slightly better balanced with a slightly tighter crop at the top.
Overall: A very convincing image that I like a lot. |
