I think this is a good result and you can get even closer with that lens and get some great detail on the flower.
Although the 100mm is very sharp, when you close in on a three-dimensional flower, I found it very difficult to achieve spot-on focus just at the places you want, while keeping the aperture low. I guess it's a question of balance - and patience :).
