Bountyby ebrantiesComment by Jonniboy: I can't believe you tried this! Really good job. I don't minfd the focus dropping off at the back but the soft focus at the front is a bit offputting. DOF only extends half as far in front as it does behind the point of sharp focus (except at really close up). If you'd focused on the first line instead of the seconf it would have been spot on. |

Bountyby ebrantiesComment by jmsetzler: the quicker picker upper :) critique... take a look at this image... as you can see, there is a sharply focused segment that extends from left to right just slightly below the center of the frame. The foreground in front of this strip and the background behind this strip are out of focus. This area that is IN focus is within your depth of field. This indicates a low F number (wide aperture) setting on your camera. I don't know what kind of camera was used here, but a larger F number (smaller aperture) in the aperture priority mode (or manual mode) would extend this plane of focus through a larger portion of your image. It also appears that the camera lens may be resting on the surface. If this is the case, raising the camera up a few inches and pointing it down at a slightly lower angle would allow the foreground to be in better focus as well. Your camera has a minimum distance from the lens in which it can focus effectively, regardless of the aperture settings. I also believe that a different orientation of this paper towel would create a better composition... diagonal lines would be more eye catching than the horizontal and vertical lines here... = 5 - jmsetzler |

Bountyby ebrantiesComment by gray4093: Interesting use of color to make the subject matter more arbitrary. Did you actually change the color on the paper towel, or on the computer? Great macro shot! |

Bountyby ebrantiesComment by karmat: the quicker picker upper! The blue is definitely interesting, and allows the texture to be more visible, I think. karmat |

Bountyby ebrantiesComment by wenyao: nice texture and DOF, further recomposition could have produced better effect, but overall, very nice. |
