Now wait ... I'm pretty sure we have some documented "authoritative sources" older than the Christian Bible. That looks like a nice edition though.

Great balance and colour. Light and shadow. fits the challenge,if not somewhat overused.

very nice. The stand makes me think maybe this is the Bible of a preacher.

Nice tones in the photo--the color of the book, wood, and background all work well together.
I don't realy understand your title though--Christiantiy is a relatively new/young religion. There are MANY examples of religious authority LONG LONG before Christiantiy came about.

not only the oldest authority, but quite possibly the oldest Bible too! I like this photo. Iw ould suggest cropping out the wood stand entirely though. The orangy background is a real nice texture and color. The wood is neither a good texture or color. The white reflection is especially distracting. Maybe if there was a cloth over it or something it would be more appealing, but my suggestion for a simple solution is to crop the left right up to the edge of the "H" and a little off the right for balance. And finally, perhaps a WB adjustment or a warmer light on the bible cover, the contrast to the background is nice but it's a bit too harsh. Maybe it's just the reflection from the spine.

The table and the (what looks like) pant leg underneath it are unnecesarry. The lighting from theleft has put too much of an edge highlight on your subject. Most of the detail around the edge of the book looks blurry, though the middle looks pretty good.
