Haven't Got a Qby pwm6Comment by Evaan: Very creative "Q." Love the idea, and executed well. The black background is very effective. Cropped perfectly. |

Haven't Got a Qby pwm6Comment by davidx76: Haha, I was wondering just how many 'difficult' letters like Q's would be entered in this challenge! Really stands out from the crowd, just a shame it isn't a real bird ;-) |

Life Linesby pwm6Comment by fstopopen: Greetings from the critique club.
Let me start by saying that this is a great photo. If you had a series of 30 of these of different people I think you could hang them at an art house.
Lighting: The lighting is even and smooth in the face. I love the softness. I think that the top of the head is a little burnt out which could have probably been helped in ps.
Composition: Almost perfect. I love the fact that it is so tight it makes the customer almost uncomfortable. That friendly face puts you to ease though. I feel like if you had tilted down just a little bit it could have helped. I think there is a tension created by not seeing the full curve of the collar.
Editing: Other than the burned out highlights, I think that this photo is perfect. One doesn't really "notice" the editing which makes it a success in my book.
Great take on the challenge. Great photo. If I knew this lady, I would order a huge print. Watch over exposure and take more beautiful pics.

Life Linesby pwm6Comment by pwm6: Originally posted by nshapiro: Beautiful clarity, exposure, and good idea for the challenge.
You might have alternately considered a bit of a crop at the top, just above the hairline, which would have emphasized the face more, and also been in sync with the close side crop.
Congrats on this great finish for your second challenge. |
Neil,
Thanks. I was pleased to get up to this "level" on my second try. I agree with you about the crop at the top. I saw this inconsistency after I posted the image. I think that a slight bit off the bottom would have worked too.
