This looks like an over-compressed image. Also looks like some illegal editing was used to get rid of the background. Either leave as is, use a shallower depth of field, or try to find a not distracting backdrop.

I like the set up on this shot and the use of the negative space works well but the lighing leaves me bothered for some reason, can't quite put my finger on it though. I'm thinking I would have liked it coming from your side, not back lit since so much detail is getting lost behind the eye. The focus seems slightly off, if you were going for a soft focus, I'm not quite feeling that. This started at a 6 but am bumping to a 7 ;)

This portrait is growing on me. I'm starting to like the soft focus of it with the solid black background. Maybe just a tad of clarity to the eyes and a little dodging around the ear to define it better might have added to it. - upgrading to 6
