Flat-tailed horned lizard (Phrynosoma mcallii )by t_onlineComment by ElGordo: The Horned Lizards are now protected species, and indeed, it seems they are disappearing.
When I was a little tyke, some 50 years ago these "Horny Toads" were very common throughout the desert southwest where I grew up.
Now it is rare to spot one of the little critters. I see perhaps, two or three a year where I live in New Mexico. Your photo is superb! |

Desert Solitudeby t_onlineComment by dacrazyrn: I do like the contrast and colors of this one. Mouse/lizard tracks give it bit more interest. Like to have seen to the top of the grasses and having them either silhouetted or a bit of fill flash/reflection to bring them out. |

Lettuceby t_onlineComment by t_online: it is a freshwater snail: Heliosoma trivolvis and is alive and kicking ... they are quite common in freshwater ponds ... the color is natural and i thought that they are actually quite cute ... certainly was not supposed to make anybody feel sick |
