The halo is the line around the subject, that kind of seperates it from the background... You can see it as a light color next to the blue parts of the life-preserver, and a darker color near the light colors (of the preserver). Your pic may have been "challenged" because of this (because it could be sign that the subject was cut and pasted onto a background), but can also be due to a lot of other things, like over-use of Unsharp Mask in particular, etc.

Let me make things a bit clear :) For OneSweetSin and anybody else who was curious. This photo was taken at about 6 am in the pool outside my flat. It was placed in still water, and I took a few pictures. The "halo" effect is the water, I guess. YOu can see a line on the life saver which IS the water, if that's what you mean by halo... ?

I really do like this image it is a very nice off centered entry. The blue and white contrast each other nicely.

The one thing that does hurt the overall look is the "halo" effect that you got, which appears to be mostly along the rope and only slightly on the ring itself, as I look at it I can't decide if that was from an unsharpening mask or if that was the motion of it being tossed.

Anyhow it really is a cool image and nice composition, definately fit the challenge.
