This is an amazing shot, and although other commentors said otherwise I think the foreground is well chosen. The rugged and unorganized aspect of the clouds is reflected with that of the buildings and powerlines, but the wide flat areas of cloud and sky are also heavily contrasted with their texture. GREAT SHOT!!

Great shot!

I have an idea how difficult this is because I have toyed around with this sort of setup in the past. The first thing I saw in this pic was the lack of camera in the shot. That's tricky! Mirrors can be really fiddly like this.

I didn't even notice the basket weave in the slinky, but after reading of it in your description, I noticed how great it looked alternately reversing in the mirrors too... very cool!

At f/8, it looks like you may have encountered some softness inherent to diffraction limitation. Tough break shooting the P&S on this one...

That is one of the single greatest reasons I knew I had to get a DSLR.

I find that on my S2 (which has a very similar pixel pitch and crop factor to the 8800), anything past f/5.6 starts to get a little soft... At f/7.1 and 8.0 it's quite noticeable.

I recently found a chart with hyperfocal distances for my camera and I think that will help a lot.

Try a google... My hyperfocal distance can be as close as approx 5 meters (if I remember correctly) at f/5.6 which isn't too bad with a bit of zoom...

Something definitely worth researching as this can definitely help with shooting long DOF while keeping your diffraction effects at a minimum!
