Cape Porpoise.jpgby RayEthierComment by violinist123: Great composition. Just the right number of boats to break the image up but not so much as to make it busy. The water looks like glass, I feel like I'm going into a trance. |

Elk-dpc.jpgby RayEthierComment by violinist123: Great capture. You seem to live in a wonderful area for gettng nature shots. Would be good if a little bit sharper/crisper but I imagine you were at the far end of a telephoto so its understanable. Love it. |

Barn@Davis Road (Small).jpgby RayEthierComment by CNovack: I love the colors in this photo. And what makes it especially beautiful to gaze upon is the snow draped tree branches that make a natural frame around the wooden barn centered in the composition. Very lovely. I just found a hidden jem to add to my favorites. |

Rustic Charmby RayEthierComment by Neil: That's a great shot Ray! Love the composition and the wide angle effect. I'm not bothered by the slightly overexposed areas called out in some of the comments--it actually adds to the effect, and they certainly give it a crisp contrast. But if you wanted to, adjust this, you could try duplicating the layer and setting the blend to multiply. This can work but only if it's slightly overexposed. In that case, if there's detail in the hotter areas of snow or sky, that can bring them out.
Wonderful shot! |

Portland Headlightby RayEthierComment by Neil: Great shot Ray! I so wanted to go there when we were in Maine last summer, but didn't make it there. It was hard enough convincing my family to go with me to Bass Harbor lighthouse.
I see you got some complaints about oversharpening/haloing on the rocks. Have you tried Focus Magic (there's a free trial, lets you do 5 photos). I like the way it sharpens better than USM. Doesn't seem to halo, at least at lower sharpening settings which is more than enough. Works very well just after you reduce to 640. (And you can also apply it before reducing, if you want uber-sharp.) |
