like the lace background, a fine fit for that delicate motif. What a pity that your white isn't white but a yellowish green, maybe setting the white balance to another mode would have helped

I would have preferred to see the whole mushroom in sharp focus, rather than the leaf litter in the background - the entire focal plane seems to be somewhat behind it.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Lovely dogs, not a bad shot at all for a shoot-from-the-hip entry. Good lighting, very good exposure, and considering that this was a Minimal challenge where you can't even crop, let alone do selective editing like straightening or cloning, a very decent entry.

The bulk of both dogs' bodies is in focus, but the head blur (esp noticeable on the chocolate Lab) shows the slow shutter speed...it may have been better to go with a higher ISO and a faster shutter in order to freeze head movement, as no animal that is awake is going to hold still, let alone take direction! :-)

Another suggestion would be to ensure that there are no reflective surfaces when shooting for a challenge under the Minimal ruleset; surfaces like that are tricky enough for pros to shoot, let alone amateurs! The green wedge of bright light above the Lab's hip is very glarey and painfully obvious, as are the smudges on the glass.

Remember too that you can still shoot as many pics as you like. Then you have the luxury of a large assortment to choose from.

Hope this helps,

Susan

Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that contributes to the challenge

A fairly standard image of a fairly standard scene that lacks a strong focal point which is why, I assume, you have added the butterflies? Unfortunately, the butterflies are not at all convincing to the extent that they detract more than they add to the image as a whole. The colours are quite appealing but the exposure is a little on the bright side with some blown highlights though not excessive. Sorry Susie if my critique sounds a little harsh it is intended to be honest and helpful.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

Your single shot worked out well you have a good level of detail throughout, to be honest, I don’t really see sufficient range of contrasts that bracketing would have proved beneficial. Your composition is good with the most important elements, the handles, off-centre in an appealing sort of way. Whilst there is no real impact there is a generally appealing feel to the image with the interesting detail of the ornately decorated wood and its appealing shapes. Sorry you didn’t receive any comments during the challenge, hope this makes up for it.
