Congrats on a top 10! Pretty steady hands for a four second exposure with such great focus.

edit: damn spelling

This is a very solid image. The focus is dead on, textures are bold, hand markings are a striking contrast to the scrathes on the knife. There seems to be an overabundance of Dodging on the forward hand's fingers in the shadowy area and this is very distracting. I do not see low tech here except in comparision to a pencil sharpener, but pencil sharpeners don't really invoke ideas of technological advancement to me. Some very strong points in this overall, one major distraction and something of a leap (for me) on the challenge itself.

Nice composition and lighting. Not meant to offend but the "maturity" in the hands helps stregthen this picture for me.

Good idea and very good composition. It would have been nice, IMHO, to get a little more (soft) light on the knife.

Nice use of leading lines, or thumbs, to point the viewers eyes to the blade and pencil. The duotone is also a good choice. Focus is sharp. Although there is one issue I have with this and it's the light spot by the person's left hand. At first I thought it was my monitor but then I scrolled the web page and it lies within the photo. It looks like you dodged that area specifically and unfortunately, it loses lot of points. Other than that, it's a very nice shot.

I love the depth and clearity. Please explain how this relates to the challenge. Since I am not familiar with Mendal I'm not getting it.

Gregar Mendel? Never heard of him. I'm ignorant, I guess. Nice composition. I like the look of the pen, but I don't like that the text doesn't help me understand what Mendel dicovered.
