Now this is a very composition kept back from shinning by the use of the raw light. Such a light used to backlight the entire scene would have given you a superior effect. It would have brought out the smoke and created a more dramatic effect.
To stay here as it is, means bringing the light back further and employing fill lights to soften the harsness. I like unfiltered light but it requires a lot of attention to bring out the subject and subdue the blown highlights which grip the eyes about the fingers.
You have the right idea but always remember that you can never do enough variations of a given shot. I would have rotated the light around and made different captures. I would even have bounced the light off a reflector.
Again, the concept was great but the execution could have used more light variations to hit paydirt.

The Carnivalby jmleliiComment by saintaugust: great capture.. though i'd crop in a little at the bottom to de-emphasize the blackness.. other than that, great.

The Carnivalby jmleliiComment by Neil: I like the color and contrasts here, and the idea is very nice. But there's something here that doesn't work for me and I can't pin it down. I think it's the dark tubes at the bottom. Maybe a little less black down there? Maybe a tiny bit of fill; the gradual lightening to the top would be fine, but maybe not this extreme? |

Puffyby jmleliiComment by phoensoul: Great idea, but the harsh lighting and the editing on the front of the sweater take away from the concept. |

Puffyby jmleliiComment by Pedro: i bet that sweater smells awesome :S little harsh lighting onthe hands...you're getting a few blown highlights. nice lighting on the face, and interesting concept. Using multi-directional lighting (3 sources or more) would soften some of the shadows and bring back some of the models features. |
