Not sure if I like the selective desaturation here -- There's still just too much going on in the background to distract the viewer's eyes. Maybe if it was all color and you could use the background to give it more interest. Just my opinion though.

Well it̢۪s a person and it̢۪s amusing once, but as a picture you would go back to and look at again I don̢۪t see it. Unless of course you know drunk Dave and you want a laugh at his expense once he is sober. =) It meets the challenge but the long term appeal factor is very low.

This image seems "foggy" to me which is a pity because it is a nice composition of the subject that just doesn't "jump" out at the viewer.

The first thing I notice about this is that it seems to be a bit light. The background is light, which doesn't really bother me, other than the fact that it makes it look like the lighting wasn't the best for the shot.
The one thing that does bother me about the lightness of the shot is the wheels of the bike. My brain says that they should be black, but they are kind of a muted grey. This, being an advanced editing challenge, could have easily been adjusted in photoshop, if even selectively. His shirt seems to be dark in comparrison with the rest of the photo. And that looks a bit odd, but still ok.
Focus is a bit soft, obviously due to the 'action'. Shutter speed could improve that, and possibly better lighting conditions. Something totally out of your control at the moment, but non the less, something that could have been better if different.
I wish that it were more obvious that he was jumping down stairs. With the blurred background like that, it makes it look like just different colored tiles on the ground or something. I didn't realize they were steps until reading your description. I guess that would mean that it seems like it has no depth.
I think the shot definately says action though. Maybe would seem more 'extreme' if it were more apparent that he were jumping down stairs.
Who wears blue socks with red shoes anyway?

In my view you could certainly pull all the levels across the entire photo down a good deal: all the colours are badly washed out. The greens have become very bland, the blossom colour is almost nothing, the leaves remain almost indistinguishable. I'm not sure you have a great image even beneath that: as far as there is a main point for the eye to fall on it's the grass - the trees seem almost secondary, partly because of that largely grey colour, partly simply your placing of them in frame. It looks like you have good light though, it's just your capture of it - try placing those clouds of blooms on a stronger line visually, such as a diagonal from corner to corner, or a converging pair of lines that draw the eye into a focal point and out again; from what i see here, I would think a few steps forward and a few to the right, and shooting along that far line of trees, would give you a far more successful image.

Beautiful, but where are the colors? Levels, curves and saturation would really punch those colors!
