great perspective and choice of what to desat...This picture tells a story, which in my opinion is a goal of photography. I love the "busy-ness" of the shot, the candidness (are any of those real words?), and the overall feel. I'm stopping short of giving you a 10 because I think it could have been a bit lighter. I'm sure the desaturation/grayscale conversion caused this, but there are several tricks to lightening without breaking DPC rules. Here's your 9 (wish I could give a 9.5) :)

Unusual perspective that works well. Not sure, but it may be stronger with jsut one of the umbrellas in color.

I think this photo would've been more effective if Jim Thome was at the end of his swing or making contact rather than being in stride.
