I do not get this photo. I'm not sure how it fits into "silence". Perhaps I am missing a deeper meaning. I'm also not fond of the composition.

OK, so maybe I don't have a Master's Degree in Psychology, but I'm at a total loss at what this has to do with silence or even it's hidden meaning! :) I'm sure the photographer had an idea of what he wanted to express, but it didn't translate well for this viewer. Too cerebral for me!
