lighter parts of this picture are over blown... the round things behinds your model's head are distracting... all together it has no appeal... whether or not it conveys silence doesn't really matter here... as entry into a photography contest it's weak... 2.

At least you are trying for something more than a cliche shot. But it's not clear to me how this conveys silence. Might work better with less harsh light on the man, maybe black and white?
