Empty office spaceby clickodakComment by ciaeagle: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Can't argue with the emptiness of this room! I can almost hear the echo of footsteps as they cross this empty room. I agree with Gordon_1, the effective use of negative space really makes this composition come together. Good choice on the black and white approach. The tones are wonderful without color to detract from the drama of the scene. The repetitive geometric shapes (tiles and lights, etc) create leading lines that are both interesting and pull you in to the window. Nice find!

Another brick in the wallby clickodakComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes to the challenge
A great image Marcel, strength in its simplicity. The repeating patterns of the brickwork work well and the contrast of the wooden seat too, but the discarded newspaper really completes the scene giving it a powerful sense of life deserted. The bold colours work well too. This looks like the same day you took ‘woman texting’ ? You are continuing to develop your creative vision well Marcel keep up the good progress. |

Woman Texting Waiting Subway Trainby clickodakComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An intriguing image that contributes well to the free study challenge
Your commenter has identified where the strength in your image comes from, it is the simplicity of the scene. As you say, a common everyday scene that is easily discounted but readily appreciated in a straight forward simple shot like this. What works really well for me is the lighting, I don̢۪t know if you have used vignetting to create the effect or if this as you saw it but it does feel like a simple overhead light sufficient to light the woman alone so because of that it works well to add impact to the end result. The only thing I am a little uneasy about is the wall itself it feels unnaturally soft and unreal but perhaps that is how it is. Anyway, well done Marcel. |

Winter cornby clickodakComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that does not meet the challenge
I think I can see what your intentions were here Marcel but for me it does not work. I can see that there is some potential for implied lines but you are so close that those stalks visible dominate in a jumbled way that does not suggest the sort of uniformity that would reveal implied lines. I can also understand why you have placed the cob the way you have but it also dominates in a way that takes away from any implied lines. I think a further higher view would have revealed the lines of plantation that would have more readily lent themselves to an implied line illusion. |
