Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that meets the challenge well

A pleasing composition Marcel, the shape of the water in motion is appealing together with its reflections. The person gives a sense of scale and is nicely positioned but the lamppost is not so good but there is little within the rules that you could do about that. What lets it all down for me is the serious banding in the sky which is most surprising given the minimal editing rules, it really is immediately obvious to a detrimental level. I quite like the building its position and lighting it does add to the image.

How do you know he's a tourist? Maybe he's a resident who just lost his job, his girlfriend left him and he's thinking about ending it all. ...meh, the bridge is way to low. He probably is a tourist. 7

Well thanks for broadening my eduction Marcel I hadn’t realised VvG had painted irises at all. The flowers are nicely lit and stand out well against the background. Your composition though somewhat tight is appropriate for the subject. The right of the background is somewhat distracting, if it had been possible a better position would have been the flower against the dark background with the distant flowers to the left and a wider frame.

You've met the challenge brief well Marcel, the crowd of people together with the fire tenders makes for quite a dynamic scene. It tells the story that easily that the people are there as a result of an incident and all in a position of limbo waiting for the 'all clear'. I was fooled by kiwinick into looking for his imaginary person, are perhaps my eye are failing me!

An appealing image that meets the challenge

A lovely composition that works in its own way. What makes this scene work so well is the splash of strong colour against the muted colours of the rest of the scene. If we assume that you have most of the plant holder, moving it further to the right would have conformed with the RoT but this is a good example of where the rule can be effectively broken. Because the rest of the plant holder is missing it leaves a sense of mystery. Also, the strong diagonals of the shadows splits the frame in a dynamic way again adding interest and impact to the end result. Nice one Marcel.
