Airplane Approachby clickodakComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that contributes well to the challenge.
Great composition Marcel, well captured. The diagonal is what makes this work so well and filling the frame as you have it fulfils the brief completely. I like the reflections on the underside of the plane it adds an intriguing touch to the end result. Everything is in good sharp focus, all in all an excellent result both in score and position well done Marcel. |

Smokerby clickodakComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Marcel, I was one of your 7s because this whimsical image cracked me up, with a *smoking* cigarette collector! Did a wonderful job of meeting the criteria for the challenge. Loving the moustache too, it along with the googly eyes gives the collector a great sense of personality. Your settings look pretty spot on to me.
Now, why didn't this image do better...definitely the flat lighting and mostly grey-on-grey bg just made it too monochrome to look at, until you see the face. I feel that the centredness of the composition is both a strength and a weakness. If there had been a way to shoot it from a different angle - either lower down or more from one side - it may have given you a cleaner bg to shoot against, and a way to avoid the dead-centre comp.
Overall a good effort and it still makes me smile! Hope this ciritique has been helpful.

Road traveledby clickodakComment by QuickClickMick: My top pick for this challenge. So many shots just focused on something red rather than really thinking through subject and composition. This is one of the ones that stood out for me. |

Jacob's Ladder crepuscular raysby clickodakComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that contributes to the challenge.
A phenomenal skyscape, very nicely captured Marcel. I like the near mono effect with very subtle colour tones at the bottom the frame. The composition is good with the heavy emphasis necessary for this dramatic sky. The only comment I would make is that I would have preferred a natural scene without the huge light poles and housing. The diagonals of the suns rays are very pleasing and nicely contrasted, well done Marcel |

Dirty abstract reflexionby clickodakComment by ciaeagle: Greetings from the Critique Club!
In terms of the challenge ... I agree that abstract can be tough. I think your picture struggled in this challenge because the lines and colors are a bit too uniform/clean. While some of the colors are "dirty" (i.e. browns, etc.) there's a structure and flow to the comp that goes against the "not not rely on clean lines and distinct patterns".
That being said ... the colors are great! I love how the muddy, murky, earthiness of the greens and browns balance with little bits of the blue. The portrait layout is nice as well since it gives height to the pattern in the colors (but the pattern probably cost you in this challenge). I agree with Cutout ... definitely some "dizzy" going on. :) |
