I really was surprised this finished second..Don't take me the wrong way , but this appeared to be heavily edited. I originally thought your sun was the way it would appear with the naked eye, but I could tell you removed the effect of its radience with red matching the sky. Kudos to you for doing that. Editing itself is an artform, separate from photography. I think this composition is excellent. I did give you a 6 originally and if the color wasn't so caked up and rich, I might of gave it an 8. Congratulations !

The entire coastline of California runs roughly east/west from Santa Monica to Port Hueneme. There are plenty of small headlands in that stretch where you can actually look east at the water.
