Fenceby dsrayComment by garlic: The hands in the middle gives this image a lot. How about litle more croping and maybe B&W. |

Fenceby dsrayComment by sfalice: Good one and I hope you do welll with it. It might also have been fun if you had cropped out all the ground and sky and zeroed in on the hands and a portion of the fence. |

Fenceby dsrayComment by KevinRiggs: It seems like this is a mundane subject but those can often yield impressive artistic compositions. In your capture, however, you've not removed the excess mundane elements from the composition so I am reminded that this is merely a fence somewhere. The excess ground in the bottom left of the photo, the tree limbs in the sky at the top left of the photo and especially the view of the ground through the fence slats at the extreme right edge of the photo all are minor reminders about the setting that keep me from enjoying an abstract interpretation of the parallel nature of this fence. The hands speak to an abstract presentation: who is that? why are those hands there? is someone wanting to come to this side or are the looking at what this fence surrounds? You have a good subject and it looks to me like you have the start of a good artistic shot but I think a tighter crop that helps the viewer to see the fence as a type of thing rather than as just someone's fence somewhere would be good. Based on the relative heights of the horizontal bars above the hands I'd suggest getting the section of fence that contains the hands in the foreground with the next two consecutive sections to reinforce the parallel lines theme and show how anamolous are the hands in these parallel lines.
Of course, this is all based on my interpretation that you were shooting for an abstract interpretation of this fence. |
