The interpretation is known by the artist, but not clear to the observer. My wife gave this a 10. My interpratation is a slam against the man. A day below ground is a good day for a pea which is a seed.

I personally like selective desat and I think it works well here. You did a nice job in getting contast in the black and white parts. Nice take on the challenge. My only concern is that while a nice photo the peas are not the subject and would be lost without the selective desat.

Selective desaturation is a technique that I think is hugely overused so it's refreshing to see an example where it's used not for the sake of it but because it truly adds something to the image. I love the black and white for the man himself - it really brings out the wonderful texture of his skin and the expression on his face. The bright green for the pea pod helps it to stand out against his skin and ensures we can really see what it is. Even though it's the only thing in colour the focal point is still on the model's eyes which I think is testament to how strong the portrait of him is.
