Returning to comment. The light in some of these images is amazing. Even though you are concentrating on the people, there's no getting away from the place.

Sarah and Don, I agree with both of you about this photograph not fitting into my essay. Several of my favorites, like this one, just didn't work in a series. At least I could make them work. As always, thanks for your feedback.

but the essay is also excellent, for the same reason: the beautiful slicing sunlight, the combinations of words and people, the boy crab and the man melons

This could be counted plain, but it's an understated marvel of everyday impressionism. The horizontal bands of color and texture are soothing and quietly joyful. I feel these bands to be welcoming arms. So lovely.
