Kind of reminds me of my gent in blue in a Starbucks in Frankfurt, but far more carefully cultivated and presented. Nice sense of mystery.

beautiful decay, contrasting contents and presentation

the story may be close to an end
but it leaves me in an unresolved state of mind:
if it is beautiful it must be good, I am trained to associate

unresolved creations unlimit people minds, if they care

thank you.

p.s. yes, you must include the lead image in the essay.

This is really interesting, Henry. I love the dark tones as the heaviness they impart lend themselves to the residue of a bleak period of history for the Taiwanese. I lived in Taipei in the mid-1950's but was too young to be exploring on my own. I do remember semi-dilapidated buildings, crowded together in walled compounds back then. Your essay brings me back to those years even as it documents the current condition of the Japanese legacy in Taiwan.

Immensely powerful Henry.
The type of essay that leaves a scar in one's heart.

I am missing the image above in the essay. This one is the true vanished splendor.

The essay left me wanting to know a lot more about Taiwan. The elusive black and white of these images, as if sketched by an observant and dedicated traveller for further elaboration, makes me want to see them in color also.

Good morning Henry

I was looking at your essay several times now and each time I had different feelings about it.
First time I was just taking a short glance at the pictures without reading your explanation. I felt somewhat puzzled and sad at the same time although I didn't know exactly why
The next time, a few hours later, I read the accompanying words before watching the essay which made me concentrate on the historical aspects but kept my feelings a little bit surpressed.
Then I admired the technical qualitly of the pictures- I espaecially love the one with the tape on the window pane and the view along the hallway.
The last times I browsed through your essay it was a pure pleasure: the combination of atmospheric pictures of a lost place with historical substance and the subtle emotion of oppression on top.
