Where the Water Runs Slowby instepsComment by daisydavid: I always admire the way you combine human environments with geometry. You have a knack of the juxtaposition that expresses function and form, the practicalities of living in an organic but sophisticated social landscape. It displays the slow monochromic churning of life that is both enticing and sombre. A very intuitive and realistic look, well done. |

Where the Water Runs Slowby instepsComment by ubique: I always enjoy your deft monochromes. And again I do here. The feeling I got from this essay was of a place displaced. I felt sad but I'm not at all sure if the sadness was for the people of Pingtung, or for me. The essence of this feeling, and of this essay, is all in the cover photo:
Thank you. |

Where the Water Runs Slowby instepsComment by wbanning: What strikes me most in this essay is the universality of the experience you've conveyed. Without knowing it was Taiwan, I might imagine this slow-water village to be in several possible locales. The cultural context is ambiguous, and so, the essay speaks about something other than where, revealing a broader view of human experience.
Beyond that ethereal commentary, it's also a series of engaging images, composed, sequenced and processed to create a coherent story, and to provide a sense of place. Thanks for sharing this! |

Where the Water Runs Slowby instepsComment by mariuca: You nailed the sadness of a place so far away and so forgotten that even the water runs slow there.
There is sweetness there though; a man encounters a dog (or is it his?), a heron looks in the distant darkness, two fish made peace with their fate and the man from his car sees it all, beauty and neglect, present and past.
Another great addition to your Taiwanese soft murmuring. |

Where the Water Runs Slowby instepsComment by rooum: Really enjoyable essay Henry. Looks like a fascinating location and I very much felt a sense of place from the images. Wonderful compositions. Loved the fish shot and as Don says below, the hands/dog photograph is utterly superb. |
