The blown out sky really distracts from this image in my opinion, my eyes automatically are drawn to that spot and away from the silhouette and the jet stream.

I find the few dark specks in the sky distracting. Since advanced editing is allowed, cloning these out would have been a good idea. As for the subject: the tops of the trees are the only part that's readily distinguishable from the other shadows. Shooting this from a location closer to the base of the trees would probably have allowed you to use more of that bright spot in the sky to frame the trees. Although the jet trail adds a point of interest, I think that framing the tree in a mode dramatic way would have given you a single, stronger subject rather than the tree + jet trail combination.
