An In Depth View of Pecos Wildernessby brett2004Comment by LindaLee: I did rate this fairly low for several reasons:
1. The compass is not in focus (I thought it was included as an intended subject), has a distracting cast shadow, and is partially cropped with the very dark area of the compass case leading the eye right out of the frame.
2. A topographical map means nothing to me, other than that I know what one is, and the way I "read" your photograph was that the compass was the subject and you were using the map as sort of background reference material to show that you would use a compass to find your way through the Pecos Wilderness.
3. The extremely shallow dof at the foreground made my eyes feel like they were going blurry!
I really do like your concept, but would like to have seen it shot at a slightly different angle perhaps.

An In Depth View of Pecos Wildernessby brett2004Comment by General: Hi I am new here , so i hope you mind my comments.
I will give my views on photographs instead of why you got low scores in this challenge.
Shadow of compass is quiet distracting in foreground also cropping of compass cover is not really a good idea.
Whole idea of shooting this snaps was shallow depth of field, well the idea you had when planning this shot some how doesnot blend together i mean , you yourself say compass was not your subject but it dominates |

An In Depth View of Pecos Wildernessby brett2004Comment by brett2004: BTW, the compass is not the subject. The topographic "Truchas Peak" is the subject. My only issue is I took this fast and left the shadow over it. I guess most people misunderstood. Oh well, it seems to be a usual thing. |

Sights and Sounds of Backpackingby brett2004Comment by f0rTyLeGz: sweet photo... and in your photo it is as if the ground itself is "letting go" of it's water. Better I think just to have left this photograph untitled, and let its mystery speak for itself. A lovely photograph! |

An In Depth View of Pecos Wildernessby brett2004Comment by Rasai: I like it. Perhaps a very slight varation on the composure of the shot may have made even better. (Ha easy for me to say) The reflection in the mirror (you taking the picture?) the heading on the compas with a shallow depthy of field works well for me. |
