Maybe you could use a paintbrush texture just on the red. Don't know if it would work but it might.

why couldn't you age the border? couldn't you activate that layer and "grunge" it up (I don't really know the answer here...just guessing) blend the two...like 2 different photos? Really like what you did...will have to experiment with that one a bit...great idea!!!
