Pretty shell, color and lighting. Just needs focus.

I find this a bit weak compositionally: and the light and shade a bit blunt. It seems to emphasise shininess rather than smoothness. Whatever that stuff is surrounding the main shell seems very arbitrary.

Greetings from the critique club

Nice shot!

I think the main issues are the light and crop. That said, I'll tackle the crop first.

I might suggest have the tip of the arrow in the shot and cropping more for it to have the feel of a panorama. You can crop some of the bottom of the image with out loosing the feel of the pose.

As for the light. Not knowing how you had this lit it is difficult to say. So I'll just say what I would have done.
Using a diffuser of some sort, in front of a single light source placed to the right and slightly below the elbow, I would have angled it so that it did not fall directly on the elbow but just below. This would help give more definition to his entire body and not have the bright area on the tip of the elbow.

A reflector of some sort placed low to reflect the light up on the front towards the hand holding the bow would help define that area and even out the rest of the light, while still keeping the intriguing shadows.

Really, this shot is very well done already and just a little tweaking would make it perfect.

hope this helps.

JC

If this were just focused I bet it would do a whole lot better. I think it was well conceived and pretty well set up too, just isn't quite the quality that it needs to be.

Good idea. I think could have been executed better. I want to straighten the gas can and be able to see the bottom. The lighting is nice from the back, but the overall feel is too dark.

The gas can seems out of focus which is distracting to me. The tip of the can is also 'just' cut off which creates a bit of dificulty for me. My eye starts at the can, then goes to the spout.. and leaves the picture... it doens't make me want to look at the picture. Interesting lighting (from behind) which creates an interesting glow,.. perhaps the can also looks very heavyand too grouded being cropped RIGHT on the bottom of the image. Either heigher up or lower down.. but not RIGHT on the bottom.

Sometimes ideas work and sometimes they don't. This is a good idea, but looks as if the compression has distorted your pixels.
