In terms of the image itself the fly is anything but camouflaged but I can see your interpretation is a clever take on the challenge theme that has fortunately been recognised by a lot of your voters too. The image itself is rather appealing with the submerged leaves forming a lovely counterpoint to the fly sitting on the plant's woody stump with the river flowing all around. You have to be commended for spotting this and interpreting the theme in the way you have, I'm pleased for you that it was appreciated here too, well done.

First of all, thanks for broadening my experience, I'd never heard of these before, quite fascinating. As regards the image itself it makes a good record shot to document lava beads and I suppose the ribbon adds some interest but beyond that the image is not really very stimulating.

It stands out distinctly against the black background and the DOF is good giving some softness to the most distant part of the ribbon, the lighting is a little flat but helps to illustrate the porous nature of the rock. It has something of a floating nature to it so that is in its favour but its difficult to get excited about it.

An appealing landscape with a difference that contributes well to the open challenge.

Shame you missed the upside down challenge, this would have been perfect. Anyway, as it is, it is still a very appealing image in its own right that has a quirky difference with the reflections as the major element. I particularly like the composition and the source of the ripples in a prominent position.

The exposure is good with good detail throughout. I scored this a 7 during the challenge and would still do so, it is very appealing, well done

I'm intrigued by what you have done here. I assume the shot has been taken at night, and what a dark night it seems but the lighting is what is bugging me, there is no way I can conceive that you have illuminated this like this yourself, so I assume the lighting is as provided by the Arboretum themselves?

I have to agree with your commenter, given the softness throughout I think this probably camera shake. If you haven't used a remote control you could use the camera's self timer to overcome this problem.

An excellent portrait that is assumed to fulfil the challenge.

A very striking portrait that, like all good photography, is all about the light. I like your low viewpoint which has allowed you to exclude potential distractions and isolate your subject against a plainer background. Your portrait is also about timing, you have captured a reflective moment that works well because it suggests a natural expression that shows a complete unawareness of the camera or anything else at that moment in time.

Your exposure is generally good with good detail throughout though I do feel that you are pushing close to the boundaries of overexposure in some rather important areas mainly the lady's forehead. If you had underexposed by a third of a stop I think you would have given just a bit more room without darkening her face too much though it is, I have to admit, I very fine line. There is possibly a little too much space above her head but her gaze needs some space to look into and because of it I think you just about get away with it.

It is a very appealing portrait that in any other related challenge would have done well but the nature of this particular challenge is lots of high quality entries to compete against. Well done, Sid
