Comment by Bud:
This is really an eye catching photo. A unique take on the implied lines theme. There are the tires, the fenders, and the feet to start with. Great photo. 10.

it fits the challenge, no question, though the middle guy is ruining your endeavours a little bit (and he's trying to jump the start!). i can imagine difficult choices were made with regards to cropping - i think for the most part you've got it right, but i might have been tempted to either a) crop level with the top of the concrete wall (thereby losing the distracting biker the other side) or b) cropping higher including more of the bikes, such as handle bars... very tough decision. overall i like it - it's original and quite gripping. 7.

from the critique club:

Okay: a very nice composition with varying textures and very good exposure. Subject matter is also very good. The texture of the wood is very appealing. You did everything right but you chose to desaturate and here lies the entire problem. Let me fill you you in a little deeper on the end result of desaturation.

It is a very difficult effect to pull off. The moment you desaturate you change the spirit of the composition into an almost graphical representation which entails artistic traits. These attempts either make it or fail. The balance of the image is dramatically changed because the color competes for the attention. I am not saying do not use it, but when you do, ask yourself the question...what in this picture do I want to accentuate. Once you decide this, ask yourself what else do I want to desat which will compliment my first choice. There rarely is something else.

As a matter of fact, your image would have retained more integrity had you kept it all black and white. The contrast is nice with very nice tones. Not to worry. You are on the right track and these little things will take care of themselves as you go. Best wishes, dan

Nice photo, but I don't understand why the wood was left, and the sand desaturated.

This is an example, IMO, of where selective desaturation does not work. Selective desaturation is generally used to put a viewer's focus on part of the image... usually the subject of the image. Is the board/wood in this photo where you want your viewer to focus?

Comment by Neil:
I like the crop on thi. The top left bright spot and petal detract from an otherwise very good shot. You might try burning it in, or cloning over the bright highlight, but I think if that petal were upward, it would be a lot nicer.
