Congratulations on another great photo, I'm sure a blue ribbon is just around the corner. Message edited by author 2004-04-26 16:00:32. |

"At a fixed aperture, focussing at a greater distance brings more of the foreground and background into the zone of sharpness." quote from National Geographic's Photography Field Guide.
The usual dramatic small DOF of a 50mm @ F1.8 is mostly seen with portraits shot from a relative close range. The focus point here is considerably further away.

Misty Morning by librodoComment by librodo: Thank you very much for your comments and your votes. This is a very lucky shot for me. I am not much of a landscape but rather more of a portrait person.
The first night of our package tour to Vietnam was in Halong Bay area. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and was out in the shores overlooking the Halong Bay at 6:00 a.m. (since breakfast won't be ready until 7:00). I spotted 3 fishing boats. I took plenty of shots (close to 50). I was also using my newly purchased 50 mm. f1.8 lens (per suggestion of dpchallenge members). In the LCD, I wasn't impressed with my shots. I would rather save my children pics so I deleted a lot. But when I downloaded the un-deleted ones in my computer, I was surprised by the clarity of the details and the drama of the early morning mist.
Darcy, I check the exif file again and it was f1.8. Sorry I am not a very technical person so I couldn't answer the question. maybe somemmembers can answer this.
Once again, thank you very much for all the critiques.
